Be blessed! You are getting not one, but THREE photos this week! I was thinking recently of a trip down to Nashville, and along the way, we stopped to explore a cave in Kentucky. This was not Mammoth Cave, but Crystal Onyx Cave, and it left a remarkable impression on me. While the underground tour was awesome, I was taken in by the weirdness and style of the decor all over the grounds. Alien statues posed in vintage cars, or spaceships, or riding atop dinosaurs. There were dragons and dinosaurs and bugs and quirky art. I loved it so much! The people running the place were not afraid to get a little wacky in their designs, and it certainly filled a niche that Mammoth Cave could not.

I think about going back on occasion purely for its whimsy. I’m inspired to demonstrate whimsy in my own art. Life is too short to be taken so seriously, and I think Crystal Onyx Cave understands that. The reason they stick in my memory is because they were willing to break the mold a little and get weird. That’s why I needed three photos to better show what kind of place it is!

I aim to offer that same source of fun and whimsy to others around me.
