Photo Of The Week – November 3, 2024

This weekend was full of surprises. My plans were all sorted out, I thought: I’d walk the trail that follows the lake shore and capture images of the auburn trees and other flora. Perhaps I would set up my camera and take a few environmental self-portraits. I expected to be out there for a few hours. But before I even reached the trailhead, I saw two dozen geese resting along the dam wall that marked the northwestern border of the lake.
It was so majestic the way they chilled in the sun; some exuded serenity and others smacked the water with their wings. I know nothing about animal behavior, but I like to think they were playing.
As soon as I saw this scene, it hit me: I’m not hiking today. I’d rather watch the birds. But that’s the adventure of life – we have expectations of how things will turn out, but until we get there, we don’t really know what surprises will appear.
