This is a throwback to the first autumn I experienced while owning a camera, four years ago. It’s one of the first nature images I took that I was quite proud of: the singular red leaf sitting atop its like against a fallen tree trunk. It feels like it saw me coming and posed for this shot.
This might’ve been around the time I began to realize the storytelling capabilities of a camera. Before, I was only capturing snapshots of people or objects around me, without considering how to compose the photo in such a way that it communicates a particular idea. And even now, four years later, I’m still developing the skill to create emotional impact in my images.
But this photo above evokes a feeling of that moment, small that it is, and my dream above all in photography is to beckon the viewer into feeling the moment with me.
